Busy day in Brussels

Not much time to post today, was in Brussels for a customer meeting the whole day...meeting was running longer than expected, but I don't complain, it's always good to meet up with a customer who is paying for lunch :) Next time it's my treat!

I also visitted the European Commission (my customer, unbelievable if you heared Adam Curry in DSC275 :)), good I brought my passport...quite a day, eh?

Am enjoying a nice whiskey at the moment, time to stop thinking about work!

Lebbis en Jansen

Went to 'Lebbis en Jansen' tonight, two stand-up comedians (strange if you consider that they sometimes sit as well...what a joke!!! Obviously theirs not mine :)) who are now doing try-outs for their New Years Eve show. They let the year pass by in 1.5 hour, so much has happened! Amazing year...heaps of fun!!
Watch their show on tv on New Years Eve, if you can!

Traffic jam

The crazy weather yesterday caused the biggest traffic jam in dutch history...over 800 km!! The longest single queue was 90 km! Sjeez, just consider that the country is around 200km East-West and 300km North-South!
I got lucky for a chance a missed out on most of it :)

Shitty weather

Bad luck if you're living in Western Europe these days...weather is bad bad bad!
Actually, with the rain of the last 24 hours I expect some areas in The Netherlands to get wet feet because of the rising ground water levels, that is if rain continues to pour down!

The HitTest by Jan Polet

Yesterday I listened to the latest HitTest podcast (by Jan Polet...j - a - n , p -o - l - e - t !).
I must say I *really* miss Adam Curry commenting/answering in between the audio clips...it's half as good this way...what a shame that things have to go like this :(

Then again, listening to some audio tracks from the PMN (Podsafe Music Network) my guess is that it won't be that far future before a HitTest based on Podsafe music will be created...what a great songs!!

Referrer spam (3)

Gonna try something new...as I'm such a nice guy, it wouldn't be nice to block some potential visitors out via the .htaccess rules (see my earlier post)
Therefore; no more blocking of single IP-addresses...those people are invited to access, but still should consider having their machines checked on malware/spyware!!
Mind you...if I come accross an IP-address from where multiple spam attempts are made, *then* they are out! :)

About the weekend

Saturday was a blast! First the Alfa dealer, then X-box'ing, no dinner (kind of lost track of time while playing :)), ADO-NEC (no comment, fun to be in the Zuiderpark stadium again, not the best game...) and partying! Because of the 0-1 loss we obviously decided NOT to go to The Hague, but Amsterdam...driving on the Amsterdam-ring we saw the first sign for Leeuwarden...hmmm, never went there in the night, so...Leeuwarden it was. Club Nao, *the* place to be. Had heaps of fun! A very, very relaxing Sunday followed :)

Weekend off

Have a weekend off; Kristel is out with friends in Zeeland for their yearly girls-weekend. Normally these type of weekends are filled with computers, internet and web-designing, but today will be different.
Just came back from the hairdresser, Robbert will pick me up soon for some old-school dudes day of fun; a X-box, some pizzas, a game of soccer (ADO - NEC) and partying till early Sunday morning.
I can leave my brains home for a change :)

Referrer spam, AGAIN!!

Sjeez, what's happening the last days? I'm hit with referrer spam (again!) more than I can handle...or actually, my bandwidth can handle...it's eating up my monthly allowance in a couple of days if I don't act NOW! Thought I solved this some time ago (check my posts on June 9th and October 7th)

Online poker, casinos, hotelgaydays, texas holdem...just to name a few of the referrers...stop it dudes, I AM NOT INTERESTED!!!
It seems that many internetters among us are hit by spyware/malware which is sending out the referrer spam, at least as seen from the originating IP-addresses and their reverse domain lookups...a lot of DSL or cable type of IP's)
For now I am banning the IP addresses with a .htaccess, but that's not the desired solution (as I *am* blocking many potential visitors of the site)...anyone any better ideas???

Cool...uhhh...book!

The new word for 'cool' is 'book'! (ofcourse BOINGGGG is way cooler, uhh, booker?!? :))

Why?
Well, try typing a text message on your mobile phone (in English) with autotext on; the first word that pops up when typing 'cool' is....book!
Book, eh? :)

One of the advantages of being stuck in a traffic-jam...you have the time to enjoy the environment :)
This is what I am passing everyday on my commute. Not so bad, eh?

WTF? licensed music banned from podcasting...

Check out Adam Curry's Daily Source Code #275 of last Tuesday (shownotes), guess the established media is feeling the pressure...any licensed music is banned from the DSC :(
This includes The Hittest by Jan Polet and Backtracks Podcast...pity because these initiatives were great fun to listen to!
Guess we can conclude that it was heaps of fun while it lasted, the good thing about it is that the Podsafe Music Network will get a major boost. This might turn out to be the best thing that could happen...:)
We'll be back...Podsafe music rules! As Adam mentioned: Rock on!
Way to go dude!

The MacCast 100!!

Congrats to Adam Christianson with the 100th episode of The MacCast! I'm a big fan of the show and listening since February this year...having (finally) switched to Mac (mini) in May, you bet I'm a happy mac user and MacCast listener!

Mark Twain: "Do not fear the enemy, for your enemy can only take your life. It is far better that you fear the media, for they will steal your honor. That awful power, the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditching and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse."

Indoor climbing

I went climbing yesterday...indoor climbing that is!
Having never done this before, I must say it's a great thing and actually more difficult than expected. You use muscles that you didn't know the existence of :)
My best friend from Down-Under, Mike, introduced me to this sport (he's doing this several years already) and I went to a climbing wall ('klimmuur' in dutch) in The Hague (climbing center 'Steep Part')
All in all it went pretty good for the first time, even though I didn't manage to climb a part with a over hang (when the wall is slightly coming to you and you're climbing 'underneath' it), sjeez...those climbs are TOUGH! My underarms and hands are feeling the work they did yesterday, showing myself that I gave it my best shot.
I learned that climbing is actually all about saving your energy, using technique and your brains and not brute power to climb up. You still need some mucle-power though, so I will train especially my arms for the next time!
